CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) - 2 Days
This two day course is intended for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities.
It provides supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities.
It will highlight the requirement to promote health and safety in the workplace and to supervise effectively.
This course is endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group as the standard training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites
Course Aim
To ensure that all those given supervisory responsibilities understand:
- Why they are carrying out their identified duties and
- What is expected of them and
- To ensure that they contribute to the safety of the workplace
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities.
Content of Course
The course covers The Health & Safety at Work Act and the regulations relevant to the construction industry. To include the following:
- Health and Safety Law
- Developing a Health and Safety Management System
- Occupational Health
- Fire Prevention and Control
- Risk Assessment and Method Statements
- Hazardous Substances
- Asbestos
- CDM Regulations
- Working At Height
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Manual Handling
- Accidents and First Aid
Course Objectives
By the end of the course delegates will know:
- The problems with the industry and its nomadic workforce
- The background to health and safety legislation, with particular emphasis on the construction industry
- How health and safety fits into our legal framework
- The duties and responsibilities of those who implement/manage health and safety issues
- An understanding of the powers of the enforcing authorities
- Accident trends and prevention techniques
- The principles of risk assessment
- The need for safe systems of work
- How their supervisory role fits in with the manager in controlling site safely
- How to carry out site inspections, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
- Understand what is meant by proactive and reactive monitoring and appreciate their need
Examination Information
The method of assessment will be by multiple-choice questions at the end of the course as well as being expected to be interactive during the course.
Certificated are valid for 5 years. However, due to continuing changes in legislation, technology, environmental management and cultural behaviour, it is recommended that refresher courses are undertaken within 3 years of completing the original course
