IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers (4 Days) Training Course

littleman.jpgThe Managing safely in construction course syllabus includes a range of health and safety topics considered to be essential core knowledge for those people appointed to a management role in a construction environment.

Course Aim

This four day course aims to give managers the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to recognise the hazards likely to be present in the construction industry and the actions needed to control and manage them.

Who Should Attend

Managers & senior site staff who are required to manage efficiently & effectively in compliance with both the organisations safety policy & current health & safety legislation.

Content of Course

This course covers 8 units over 4 days:

  • Module 1 - Introducing managing safely in construction
  • Module 2 – Assessing risks in construction
  • Module 3 – Controlling risks in construction
  • Module 4 – Understanding your responsibilities
  • Module 5 – Identifying hazards in construction
  • Module 6 – Investigating accidents and incidents in construction
  • Module 7 – Measuring performance in construction
  • Module 8 – Protecting our environment in construction

Course Objectives

By the end of this course successful delegates should be able to:

  • Understand relevant health & safety legislation & specific legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes, its impact on managerial responsibilities & sources of information, advice & guidance on compliance
  • Distinguish between the duties & responsibilities of the employer & employee, client, contractor & sub contractor
  • Be able to verify the competence of contractors & sub-contractors
  • Have an understanding of risk assessment & risk control, risk rating systems identifying common & specific hazards relative to the industry.
  • Describe the concept of unsafe acts & unsafe conditions
  • Be able to select workplace precautions relative to the hazards & record results of risk assessments & carry out reviews.
  • Understand the principles & statutory requirements of accident/incident investigation, reporting & recording
  • Know the importance of continuous active monitoring
  • Explain the importance of consultation with employees or their representatives & identify training needs

Examination Information

The end of course assessment consists of a short answer written test and a practical assessment in the workplace.

Candidates who attend and successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
